Are they actually feeding on Tilia sp (Malvaceae) ? I have not seen any reports of P. glycinae feeding on Malvaceae before. Please can you rear a couple of the larvae in captivity to check what the adult moth looks like ? You may have the larvae of a different Agaristinae.
Thanks! I haven't actually seen them feeding, only under the tree. This one appeared on my thigh when I was sitting in a chair under the tree, and I assumed it had dropped from the tree, but it might have crawled up my jeans. I now think I may have cleared up the mystery of what they are feeding on, after a quick bit of web research on the Grapevine moth. I see that We have a substantial amount of a plant that this larva sometimes feeds on Parthenocissus tricuspidata, and we have an extensive expanse of what looks to my untutored eye like that plant next to the tree. So it may have come from there. I have been looking for more of the caterpillars today, but no luck so far. I will certainly try my hand at rearing the larva, but have never done that before, so any hints on how to keep it alive would be much appreciated. I'd love to rear it to adulthood. I currently have it in a 30x 18 cm aquarium with leaves, some sticks, and a bit of dirt in it.
