The dark hair pencil over the head , and shorter paler pencil at the tail are indicators of T. sparshalli. The larvae of this species have variable colours, consistent with this specimen, see http://lepidoptera.butterflyhouse.com.au/noto/sparshalli.html There may be other Thaumetopoeinae with similar features. We only know the larvae of 12 out of the 29 named species in this subfamily. The absence of dorsal reddish glands on the two penultimate segments rules out Lymantriinae.
