The Census of Vascular Plants of the ACT lists G. solanderi var. solanderi but not the straight species.
Questions: How to distinguish between the straight species and the var. solanderi? could this be G. s. var. solanderi? Thank you

Both names are as good as synonymous in Canberra as the other variety, var. grande, occurs further north from here. However, i'm not actually sure of the validity of either name, I think Geranium grande may be a species in its own right. The identification is fine as it is, we could change it to be var.solanderi to be technically correct but it doesn't really matter. CNM is pretty inconsistent with which infraspecies we have in the database, for example; we list Eucalyptus goniocalyx, whereas to be technically correct it should be Eucalyptus goniocalyx subsp. goniocalyx.

Tapirlord you put the finger on an item with which I struggle every year when I update our Flora list: the inconsistency between Census which lists for example Geranium solanderi va. solanderi (only) and CNM which lists Geranium solanderi and Geranium solanderi var. solanderi.
I know that Census requires updating which may be slow but as a non-botanist and not following literature and discussions about species differentiation etc I have no judgement whether there are both Geranium solanderi and Geranium solanderi var solanderi in an area (similar Epilobium billariereanum, Census has 2 subsp only and CNM has both subsp and straight ...)

I think I would just use Geranium solanderi and put the arbitrary infraspecies in brackets afterwards in this case. When there are more than one infraspecies present then it is worth making the distinction.
