Fortunately the Oudemansiella gigaspora group is fairly distinctive and so I could identify this sigting. In general with such caps-on-stems fungi you'd need to also get a photo of the underside of the cap.

Possibly a slightly atypical Schizophyllum commne - but without a good view of the underside I can't guatrantee that.
